A trip to Marmaris

31 July

Coming at you with another travel post. This time I took a trip to Turkey and stayed in a town resort knowns as Marmaris.  A beautiful area along the Turkish Rivera with a long seafront promenade and lively nightlife. Quite a nice destination for a quick, affordable break away.

The nearest airport is Dalaman which is roughly 1.5- 2 hours away so if you do wish to visit Marmaris be prepared for a long transfer. However, once you are in the area everywhere is pretty central and transport is cheap so getting around the town is fairly simple. We were in a pretty good location, 10 minute walk to the nearest beach, nightlife and restaurants.

Like every holiday, activities have to be included in your itinerary. Honestly, you cannot go to Turkey without experiencing a Turkish Bath, which is basically a cleansing treatment that lasts for about 15 minutes. You'll lay on a huge marble platform known as a gobektasi, it is quite warm and perfect for the soap massage (Turkish bath). This was then followed by a relaxing 30-minute massage and time to chill. It refreshes, relaxes and cleanses you completely so it's always a good idea when visiting Turkey.

Marmaris offers plenty of boating options, we boarded an all-inclusive ship and visited the entire surrounding area of Marmaris and a couple of little islands nearby. As we stopped off at a few different points we could really take time and appreciate the scenic views Marmaris had to offer. We took a couple of trips to Iclemer beach which is just outside of Marmaris. A beautiful pebbly beach, with gorgeous views and clear waters.

On our last day we took a 1 hour drive to this beautiful restaurant 'Yuvarlakçay Yeşil Vadi' (that I previously came across on Instagram) in a neighbouring town called Fethiye where we tasted some authentic local cuisine and sat amongst a beautiful view of a waterfall and a long winding river.

Turkey is definitely a great choice for travellers interested in sunshinefriendly locals and culture!

Until next time
